1. Who we are

Super Power Backup Supplies CC ("Super Power", "we", "us") supplies power transformers, miniature substations, distribution transformers and automatic voltage regulators to customers in South Africa and across Africa.

We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy, as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA").

2. What this policy covers

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our website or contact us, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what rights you have over it.

3. What we collect

When you contact us or complete our enquiry form:

Your name
Your company name
Your email address
Your telephone number
The details of your enquiry, including technical requirements, site location and any project information you choose to give us

When you visit our website:

Standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type and approximate location
How you found our site, which pages you viewed, and how long you stayed
Information collected through cookies (see section 8)

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

4. Why we use it

We use your personal information to:

Respond to your enquiry and prepare a quotation
Source, supply and deliver equipment you order
Arrange freight, delivery and, where applicable, cross-border shipping and customs clearance
Arrange installation where you ask us to
Invoice you and manage payment
Keep records we are required by law to keep, including for tax purposes
Improve our website and understand how visitors use it

We rely on the following grounds under POPIA: performance of a contract with you, compliance with our legal obligations, our legitimate interests in operating and improving our business, and your consent where consent is required.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information.

We share it only where necessary, with:

Equipment manufacturers and suppliers. To source and specify equipment for you, we pass the relevant technical requirements and, where necessary, your delivery and contact details to the manufacturers and suppliers we buy from.
Installers. Where you ask us to arrange installation, we share the details needed to carry it out.
Freight, logistics and customs agents. To deliver equipment, including across borders, we share delivery contact details and any information required for customs clearance.
Our service providers, including our website host and analytics provider (see section 6).
Professional advisers, such as our accountants and auditors.
Regulators, courts or authorities, where we are legally required to disclose information.

6. Where your information is stored

Our website is built and hosted on Wix, and we use Google Analytics to understand website traffic. Both store and process information on servers outside South Africa.

Where equipment is supplied into countries outside South Africa, your delivery and contact details may be transferred to freight agents, customs authorities and suppliers in those countries.

POPIA permits these transfers where the recipient is subject to laws or binding agreements providing an adequate level of protection, where the transfer is necessary to perform a contract with you, or where you have consented. We take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that transfers meet these requirements.

7. How long we keep it

We keep enquiry and quotation records for five years. We keep transaction records for at least five years, as required by South African tax legislation. Website analytics data is retained according to Google's standard retention settings.

We delete or anonymise personal information once we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it.

8. Cookies

Our website uses cookies — small files placed on your device — to make the site work properly and to measure how it is used.

We use essential cookies, needed for the site to function, and analytics cookies, through Google Analytics, which help us understand which pages people visit.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site from working.

9. How we protect your information

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. This includes restricting access to those who need it, using reputable service providers, and securing our devices and accounts.

No system is completely secure. If a security compromise affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

10. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

Ask what personal information we hold about you
Ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or unlawfully obtained
Object to us processing your information
Withdraw consent, where processing is based on consent
Not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing
Complain to the Information Regulator

To exercise any of these, email ryan@superpower.co.za. We may ask you to verify your identity. We will respond within a reasonable period.

11. Direct marketing

We will only send you marketing about our products where you have asked for it, or where you are an existing customer and the marketing relates to similar equipment. You can opt out at any time by replying to any message or emailing ryan@superpower.co.za.

12. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first at ryan@superpower.co.za so we can try to resolve it.

You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at https://inforegulator.org.za. Complaints to the Regulator must be made in writing, using the Regulator's prescribed complaint form.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this website, with the date it was last updated.
